Description

MATERIALS ENGINEER – FRACTURE AND FATIGUE

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop fatigue and fracture properties for novel rocket designs
Work with design engineers on material selection and property development
Implement fracture control for manned space flight and reusable rockets
Conduct and direct hands-on laboratory testing and failure analysis of vehicle hardware and raw stock materials
Find and implement innovative approaches to improve fatigue life of hardware
Serve as a residential expert for testing of the mechanical behavior of metals
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in materials science or mechanical engineering
3+ years of experience related to fatigue, fracture, or failure analysis of metals
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

PhD in material science or materials engineering
Expertise in one of the following: fracture control, conducting fatigue or fracture tests, or failure analysis
Strong desire to mentor and grow employees
Expert first principle knowledge of mechanical behavior or metals
Experience with fracture control principles for aerospace
Expertise in aerospace materials including high strength aluminum, nickel alloys, and titanium
Understanding of test and design approaches for fatigue crack growth, low-cycle fatigue, fracture, and elevated temperature behavior
Demonstrated track record performing failure analysis of functional components in a field such as aerospace or automotive
Understanding of non-destructive test methods for fracture control
Demonstrated track record of success in a rapidly growing, fast-paced, and highly competitive environment
Personality and drive to execute in a scrappy entrepreneurial environment that operates under tight timelines and aggressive schedules
Effective written and interpersonal communication skills
Capable of interacting with and conveying concepts within all levels of our organization
