LEAD MANUFACTURING ENGINEER

Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead a team in the production, assembly and integration of structural mechanisms for Dragon spacecraft assemblies including docking systems and deployable structures
  • Advise team members on technical decisions related to the team’s products and act as responsible manufacturing engineer on work instructions and nonconformance resolution
  • Lead team in development production procedures/processes and manage the transition of parts and assemblies from development to full rate production
  • Aggressively drive and implement process improvements to reduce assembly hours and build cost
  • Execute design for manufacturability changes to enhance production efficiency through establishing and leveraging working relationships with design engineers, internal machine shops and external suppliers
  • Act as test conductor for critical system level testing and functional checkouts

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace, manufacturing or mechanical engineering
  • Minimum of 2 years of manufacturing, fabrication, assembly or testing experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a leadership role within a manufacturing environment

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master's degree in aerospace, manufacturing or mechanical engineering
  • Experience with the development of structural mechanisms from R&D into production
  • Experience with instrumentation and data acquisition, including familiarity with LabVIEW software
  • Process development, facility and line layouts, PFMEA, Error-Proofing
  • Experience with Unigraphics (UGS), Teamcenter CAD or PDM systems
  • Knowledge of metallic or composite manufacturing techniques, processes, equipment, and other processes such as machining, welding, drilling, sheet metal forming and stamping

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Position may require extended hours and weekend work
